Fairfax, CA Real Estate:

Short Sales, Fixer uppers, and Homes

Tom Verkozen has specialized in Fairfax Real Estate and homes for over three decades, having lived there equates to that special extra bit of knowledge. Tom has sold homes in the hills and in the flats, represented executors selling probate homes, foreclosures, short sales, income property, done exchanges and sold fixer uppers. It is easy to say that Tom knows the hills and flats of Fairfax better than most real estate agents in the county.

Short sales and REOs in Fairfax were around 20% of all sales in 2009 ... and this year these sales are running at slightly over one in every three sales.

Fairfax, a small town (population of 7,319 and 3306 households according to the 2000 census), borders San Anselmo on the east and San Geronimo Valley on the west, holds bragging rights as the best, most active night music scene in all of Marin county  … beginning with Irving Berlin who used to serenade from a treetop piano at Pastori's Hotel, formerly Bird's Nest Glen, the home of Lord Charles Snowden Fairfax, later known as the Marin Town & Country Club, which was a great escape venue for those of us who grew up in San Francisco … now replaced by The Sleeping Lady, 19 Broadway and several other music venues.

Fairfax is the least gentrified of the core towns in Marin and has a good mix by age, occupation and ethnicity of population. Housing prices are varied and homes are 'salt and pepper' ... a large $M home will often be directly next to a small cottage ....

Fairfax, the gateway to west Marin, is often thought of as part of west Marin because it has a large geographic base, easy access by road and single track paths to the watershed lands of MMWD, and because there are several horse stables located on the fringes of town.
